Footwear
Appropriate footwear must be worn - either closed-in shoes or joggers.
Enclosed sport shoes or black school shoes must be worn at all times unless directed by a member of staff.
Most of the injuries we treat at the office are to feet. Shoes must be worn on all excursions, cultural performances and for Physical Education lessons. Our P & C Association has endorsed the policy that children must wear shoes at all times.
Hats
Proserpine State School has a strict "No Hat, No Play" rule. Our school policy is that children must wear hats for all activities in the school in the playground throughout the year. Children without hats will not be permitted to play, whether it is inside or outside.
All children are required to wear a legionnaire style cap or a broad brimmed hat.
The Sunsafe Guidelines indicate that children are suffering sun damage to ears because they are wearing inappropriate hat wear. The school has made provision for the sale of Bucket Hats with the School name for $10.00. While children do not have to wear this particular hat, they will have to wear one of similar style, or a broad brimmed hat.
NB No caps are allowed in the school grounds. Any students wearing a cap will be directed to place it in their school bag and bring a sunsafe hat in the future.
Jewellery
For safety reasons, the only jewellery that should be worn to school should be a watch and earrings (studs preferably), religious or medical medallions.
Necklaces, rings, chains etc are not appropriate for school attire and unsuitable for some activities eg. play, swimming & PE. Also, jewellery items are easily lost or damaged.
Children should remove nail polish for the school week.
Free Dress Days
During the year, the children have the opportunity to wear 'free dress'. When this occurs,
the children are still expected to wear sunsafe clothing. Shirts must still be sunsafe and a broad brimmed hat is still required. Girls are not permitted to wear shirts which do not cover their midriff.
