A good leader is a combination of many things. They are usually the people who:
At Proserpine State School, we value the importance of leadership. We have a proactive leadership program which begins informally in the lower grades, leading towards the more formal approach in Years 6 and 7. As Year 7 children are the leaders of the school, at Proserpine State School the children in Year 6 are encouraged to begin working towards their future goals of leadership positions for the following year. These positions include:
The Year 6 children take part in leadership units of work as well as attending a school camp with Leadership as the theme. For a Year 6 child to be considered a school leader they need to prove their abilities. This is done through a Leadership Log which the children should complete over the year. This is not a compulsory task, as not all children aim for leadership positions. In the Leadership Log the children are expected to show their involvement in a mix of the following 4 categories, as well as being a Star Student for the duration of the Year.
The Leadership Logs are then submitted for perusal by teachers and Administration staff and future candidates are chosen if their Logs are substantive enough.
