Camping ProgramAll children benefit from the unique experience of community living; sharing, working and living as a team. Being interdependent with peers affords the child an opportunity to make new friends, to see each other out of the context of school, and to witness and appreciate the different talents of others. For the children at Proserpine State School it allows them to move out of the family home and experience new and different levels of responsibility. School camps expose the children to different environments that the children would not normally experience. Camps help develop self esteem as children learn to try different activities in a supportive and friendly environment. Often they participate in activities they have never experienced before and they are rewarded with a sense of accomplishment and self worth. Camp is therefore a wonderful experience - especially for the timid or overly dependent child. Children learn new skills, develop a sense of autonomy and trust in their own decisions. Proserpine State School has a camping program starting from Year 4. Each camp usually has a specific focus and the activities taken part in on camp lend themselves to each topic. There is a blog page devoted to the Year 7 Canberra Tour where parents can send messages to their children, as well as see diary entries and photos of their trip so far.
