The increasing use of technology in all aspects of society makes confident, creative and productive use of ICT an essential skill for life. Increased capability in the use of ICT supports initiative and independent learning, as pupils are able to make informed judgements about when and where to use ICT to enhance their learning and the quality of their work.

Proserpine State School is an advocate of The Smart Classrooms Framework which supports teachers in their visions for 21st century teaching and learning, using digital pedagogies. Digital pedagogies move the focus from adding ICT tools on to teaching and learning strategies, to a way of working in a digital world.

The Smart Classrooms Professional Development Framework is a guide for planning professional learning with ICT.

At Proserpine State School we encourage teachers to reflect on and strengthen their beliefs and practices in using ICT for teaching and learning, regardless of which key learning area or phase of learning they teach.

Teachers are assisted and encouraged to:

• promote an inclusive approach to ICT in the curriculum:
• use ICT can be used effectively to support and extend student learning
• regularly assess their own practices of using ICT for learning
• build their professional knowledge, practice, values and relationships in making ICT integral to learning.
