Assessment and Reporting

|
Assessment is on-going, relevant and caters for individual learning styles. It is planned for during each term’s cohort planning day and allows students to demonstrate what they know and what they can do given multiple opportunities.
At Proserpine State School, teachers acknowledge that assessment is NOT different to the students’ work that is produced when they are actively engaged within the classroom and school environment. The assessment tasks set will :
All assessment given to the student's is moderated each term by the cohort groups. This ensures that the same standard of work is being expected across the year level and shows continuity of results. Standards Based AssessmentStudents in Queensland benefit from a formal program of standards-based assessment. The major purposes of the assessment program are to:
At various key junctures, students' achievements in the assessment program are reported formally to parents, schools, school systems, the Queensland Minister for Education and Training and the Federal Minister for Education, Science and Training. Queensland Studies Authority - Assessment Overview - This overview gives a summary of the formal program of standards based assessment your child will participate in throughout their schooling years. NAPLAN - The National Assessment Program - Literacy and Numeracy tests were first implemented in May 2008, when national tests were held in literacy and numeracy for all students in Australia in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9. The NAPLAN tests are designed to assess the skills of Australian students in literacy and numeracy. QCATS - Queensland Comparable Assessment Tasks - The QCATs are authentic, performance-based assessment tasks. Each year, students in Years 4, 6 and 9 will be given opportunities to demonstrate their achievement of targeted Essential Learnings in English, Mathematics and Science. The Year 2 Diagnostic Net has been developed by the QSA to support learning and development in literacy and numeracy in the early years of schooling. Children's learning and development are monitored throughout Years 1 to 3. Specially designed assessment tasks are given to students in Year 2 to help identify those who need additional support. ReportingAt Proserpine State School, we formally report to parents twice a year through a written report card at the end of Semesters 1 and 2. Formal Parent and Teacher interview evenings are held in Terms 1 and 3 at the Highschool Multipurpose Hall. Written reporting also provides information on industry, attitudes and behaviour. Each of the KLA's are reported on each semester along with any extra subjects each child may have taken part in, eg Instrumental Music. All reporting aims to provide an awareness of strengths and identifies areas of need to allow for support where necessary. We encourage parents to peruse assessment tasks and criteria sheets in order to be kept informed of children’s progress. A portfolio of student work, with evidence of children’s learning achievement, is maintained by all class teachers and can be perused by parents on request.
